I do apologize, this comment is actually not directed towards your post.
I am actually stopping in to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Sayward, and I waited on your step father (I believe that's what he said his relation was to you) the other day while he was passing through Virginia. When I introduced myself, he told me to "get the hell out" and gave me the address to your blog so that I could let you know "in person", YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE! Hahah.
My name comes from the novels written by Conrad Richter, which the later movie was based on. I believe that is where you also got your name, correct?
That's so funny! Are you around the age of 31 or so? I randomly meet people "on line" with our name, but never in person. Other people have met other Sayward's, but I've yet to meet one! I'll have to find out where Brian was eating and make a stop through Virginia some time!
Mom and dad were watching "The Awakening Land" when mom was pregnant with me and they loved the name. I did read the novels when I was in grade school, they are actually pretty good! Have you grown up in the states, or are you from the Canada area? Sayward is fairly common in Canada.
I'm actually only twenty. I've gotten a myspace message from another Sayward, for example, and I was added on facebook by one other. However, I'm like you and have yet to meet another one in person. Meeting your step father was the closest thing to it. He was actually eating at the Texas Road House in Lynchburg.
My mother had read the series of books when she was a teenager and fell in love with not only the name, but the character as well. She wanted a strong, independent daughter. Haha. I've only gotten to read the first installment.
I grew up in the States, down south actually, and only recently learned about the Sayward part of Canada. To my understanding, it also originates that from an anglo saxon culture. It was a male surname, coming from "seaward".
Where down south did you grow up? I'm in the Pawleys Island area (south of myrtle beach). My email is saywardelliott@gmail.com if you'd like to correspond!
