We are settling right into December. Like I mentioned, Thanksgiving break was a great teaser for what our Christmas break holds. We really enjoyed our time at my mom's. Ian is such a little funny guy, and Spencer is an amazing big sister. I couldn't have asked for better children.
When we got back, I "enjoyed" a trip to the dentist to have a cavity filled. You can see by the picture below he was a bit generous with the novicaine!
One thing I am really looking forward to is time with my ENTIRE family over Christmas. I wish I could see my little brother more, but am proud of all he's doing on the West Coast. We skyped with him on Thanksgiving day, so I'll take what I can get!
There are a few things that will never sit right with me about living in the south. First would have to be that I have worn flip flops EVERY year to get our Christmas tree! And, even this year, I wore shorts. Also, we go to a grocery store for our tree. Matt and I have refused to give in to the fake tree fairy, and we nurse a real tree each year.
As we navigate through the maze called parenting, we are at a crossroads with Ian. He is really trying to find his place in the family. He does this by a high pitched scream/shriek. It's very loud, hurts our ears and is just annoying. We've tried just about everything. The other night, I told Spencer to just ignore him. She looked over at me with tears in her eyes, "He's so loud, mommy. He's hurting my ears." So, I went into our closet and got out her noise cancelling earphones. Yes, what you are seeing is 2 children, eating their dinner, not listening to music, but just with earphones on. Ian wanted some once Spencer put her's on.
Garlic has made his grand appearance. We decided about 2 years ago to wait until December 1 for his return in our home. This was due to 2 things. First, we simply run out of spots to hide him. Next, upon his arrival, he brings advent calendars with him. Therefore, we like for the kids to get right into the advent season with the calendars. I am on the search of a really nice advent calendar, one that I can fill on my own. Of course, there's always something built by my in-home man, Jono, but I know there's something out there I just haven't found yet!
Silly time at night with a little girl and sparkle stickers.
Finally, this morning, we all awoke to one of Garlic's antics. He was busy at night, having a marshmallow fight with the dog, Midnight. Spencer was very interested if Midnight witnessed Garlic flying in and out of the house each night. So, Garlic left a note for the kids that Midnight was going to try to wake them up to see Garlic fly. So, Garlic twarted her efforts with a war of marshmallows. Spencer LOVED it.
In return, Garlic left 2 Christmas cups for the clean up they would have to help with (which they didn't). The cups are super cute. My friend's mother owns a beautiful shop here in Pawleys, and last time she was at market, she had picked these up for her 4 grandchildren and grabbed 2 for my kids. It was really sweet. The red bottoms screw off and are snack cups.
I found peppermint mallows at Wal-mart and thought they would be perfect for Garlic's fun.
What are you doing to keep in the spirit of Christmas?

Your Garlic is one crazy elf!! Our Elfabet is sitting in Ayla's stocking right now with a "get well" card because she is a sick little girl. If you ever see an idea for an advent calendar you like... let me know and I could sew one for you (at a minimal price). I love reading your blog and seeing how you handle the sibling drama. Headphones would do wonders for all the fighting and tattling around here.
